Adani Group plans transport network under Mumbai's Dharavi redevelopment project
The Dharavi redevelopment project led by the Adani Group will develop a state-of-the-art transport network, with railway, road and airport transit facilities available at one place. The project aims to transform Dharavi into a modern and convenient urban area.

Multi-modal transit hub
The key highlights of the project include a multi-modal transit hub, which will have dedicated train services, check-in and transit facilities to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports. The hub will also integrate intercity and intra-city rail, metro services and city buses, providing better connectivity to commuters.
Social and infrastructure development
The project includes a riverfront promenade along the Miti river, multi-speciality hospital, primary and secondary schools, community hall, library, hostels for working women, mediation centre, cultural and convention centre, and a museum dedicated to the history and culture of Dharavi. In addition, the project will also develop green spaces, industrial areas, and community recreation areas.
Rehabilitation and Housing Scheme
The Maharashtra government approved the acquisition of 256 acres of salt-pan land located in the northeast of Mumbai in October 2024, a significant step for the Dharavi redevelopment project. This land will be used to develop affordable and rental housing for residents who are not eligible for redevelopment in Dharavi. Around 72,000 residential units will be constructed under the project, out of which 50,000 families will be provided affordable housing and 1.5 lakh migrants will be provided shared rental housing.
Economic impact
According to experts, the Dharavi redevelopment project will provide around 140 million sq ft of free sale space, which is expected to generate revenue of Rs 1.2 to Rs 1.7 lakh crore. The special purpose vehicle of the project, Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt Ltd, in which the Adani Group holds 80% stake and the rest with the state government, will implement the project.
The project will not only ensure better living standards for the residents of Dharavi but will also transform the urban landscape of Mumbai.
